10 Mile Mission Run

Oscar and I post run

Oscar and I have decided that we are going to participate in fun runs this year rather than sign up for a gym membership. Although race entry fees can add up, it is still less expensive than a gym membership. We needed some sort of motivation for keeping up with our runs (although now I need motivation with squats, lunges, weights and abs!!).

This morning we woke up at 5:30am to get out the door by 6:15am and head off the San Antonio Road Runners 10 mile Mission Run. When the alarm went off I questioned if this was really such a good idea! Staying in bed on such a cold morning sounded like a pretty good plan:) Once we dropped off the baby at Oscar's parents house and got to the start line, I felt more motivated and was more in the mind set of "let's do this"! It was about 40 degrees when we arrived, but when the sun rose, and we started running, the cooler temperature seemed much more bearable.

I crossed the finish line in 1:31:19! I went over my goal time by 1:19 - which is no biggie in my book! I am just so happy that I made it across the finish line! The trail was very nice and calm. We ran a 5 mile loop twice and it was still nice the second time around.
I was able to maintain around a 9 minute miles the entire run. Being consistent with my pace has always been a challenge for me, so I am thrilled with this accomplishment. Also, when I ran the SA half RNR marathon, I made it to the 10 mile marker in 1:33:01. I am so happy that I improved my time by a couple of minutes! Whoop!

Oscar doesn't run during the week like I do, and still made excellent time - 1:47:12 (not sure I have the seconds right!).
After the run there was frito pie, tamales, beer, sodas, yummy short bread cookies, and fruit. Normally I'm not hungry after a run (or at least it takes a while for me to get hungry), but this time I was hungry after wards and enjoyed it all!
